Some people have a strict definition of “vibe coding,” but this article is broad enough to be good guidance for anytime you’re writing code with an AI tool. Whether you’re looking to ship a side project or just get a little productivity boost at work, using AI tools well can get you there.

1. Use a tool that has an agent

This is the single biggest rule I recommend you stick to. To get the biggest productivity gains in AI-augmented software development, have an agent write as much of your code as possible.

If the only AI tool you’ve used for your work is Copilot, you might be surprised at how hands-off you can actually be. In the last 3-12 months, tools like Cursor and Windsurf have made it possible to publish entire apps without writing a single character of code yourself. In Cursor, be sure to use the Chat pane with the Agent turned on.

Detailed guides like this one are exclusive for paid members. Monthly subscriptions are $8. But yearly subscriptions are an even better deal 😉

2. Use new Cursor chats for each discrete task
